Caps United squeezed into the semi finals of the Banc ABC Sup8r knockout competition after overcoming Shooting Stars 4-1 on penalties at Rufaro on Wednesday.

They will now meet defending champions Lengthens in the semi-finals.

Substitute goalkeeper Tafadzwa Jaricha was the unlikely hero for Caps United after saving Prince Mbara’s penalty and seeing Thembani Masuku’s spot kick sail wide of goal.

Only the Shooting Stars captain Elliot Matsika managed to convert his penalty for the Elite Boys.

Captain Nyasha Mukumbi, Marvel Samaneka, David Sengu and Ghanaian import Frank Adu converted for Caps United to set a date with Lengthens in the semifinals.

The two teams could not be separated in the 90 minutes and injury time during which they remained deadlocked at 3-3, although Shooting Stars would feel hard done by the referee for allowing Caps United’s equaliser in the 120th minute to stand.

New signing Clive Kawinga opened the scoring for Caps United in the first half before Samaneka and Douglas Walaza chipped in with a goal each.

Young Simba Sithole scored a second half brace while Samuel Gadzikwa added the third towards the end of the second half of extra time.
