Mliswa bail ruling tomorrow

The bail ruling for the embattled businessman Temba Mliswa is expected to be handed down tomorrow by Harare magistrate Donald Ndirowei after Mliswa failed to turn up last Thursday as he appeared at Karoi Magistrates’ Courts.
Mliswa, a former Zimbabwe national team fitness trainer, was last Thursday summoned to appear at Karoi Magistrates’ Courts where he faced charges of allegedly assaulting eight of his employees and one count of pointing a firearm.
Mliswa’s lawyer Charles Chinyama commended the police for proceeding with the cases in Karoi on summons as opposed to arresting his client for the old cases, some of which backdated to 2003.
“The police have decided to follow correct procedure this time,” said Chinyama. “They summoned my client to appear before a Karoi magistrate which is what they should do with other cases, if there are any.”
In his application before Ndirowei, Chinyama sought an order from the court to protect his client from abuse. He wants the court to rule that the police should not arrest Mliswa on old matters but should proceed by way of summons.
Mliswa has made an application for bail in the cases where he is alleged to have stolen six 60KVA generators from farms around Karoi and defrauding the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe of $3,5 million.
