Chigutiro is back!

-

It’s official! The Chigutiro urban grooves compilation series is back after a two-year break following the theft of equipment at their studio in 2008.
Having made three successful urban grooves compilations between 2005 and 2008, the Chigutiro family suffered a huge setback when thieves broke into their studio at Strathaven Shopping Centre and wiped the whole studio out.
“Everything was stolen on that fateful day, June 25 – two days before the presidential run-off on June 27 2008,” said Chigutiro Studios director Jeremiah Chatikita.
Although they are now back on their feet, Jeremiah has decided to relocate his studio to South Africa where he said there were better prospects than in Zimbabwe.
Last year Chigutiro was based in South Africa where the resident producer of the stable, Sipho Mkhuhlane aka TBA, has since relocated to.
Artists have had to travel to South Africa to record their tracks for the Chigutiro Phase Four compilation dubbed Champions in Action (CIA).
“Shayne Dingz had to travel from the United Kingdom to South Africa to do the song Rufaro (the first song on the compilation) and other locally based artists like Blush and Diana had to travel to South Africa to do their solo songs as well,” said Lovemore Chatikita younger brother to Jeremiah.
Enoch “Nox” Guni is based in South African so he did not have a problem doing part of the song Sorry which features rapper of the moment, Stunner.
Nox is also working with TBA on his upcoming album Zim’s Finest: Tisu Tine Yese from which he has already started releasing singles; Tanakirana being the most recent single which he also did a video for at his base in South Africa.
CIA also features a number of talented upcoming South African artists as well, including Tzel, Evha, Valking and Joey Lee among others.
Other artists featured on the album include songbird Jessie Chiminya, Rufaro Cindy Munyavi, Trinta and Enoch “ExQ” Munhenga who was one of the most valuable assets of rival stable, That Squad Records which did the Chamhembe compilation.
