Use your breasts for babies — Stamps

Former health minister Dr. Timothy Stamps who, over a decade ago, earned himself the nickname “Killjoy” for his vigorous campaign for the use of the condom, has once again hogged the limelight with his advice to women on the use of their breasts.
Dr Stamps, who is now Health Advisor in the President’s Office, told delegates to a health seminar in Harare yesterday that women should use their breasts for breastfeeding babies and “not for Hollywood or H-Metro” purposes!
The ageing medical doctor and former Harare city director of health left the house in stitches with his humorous anecdote – particularly his reference to Zimbabwe’s sensationalist tabloid which even at his advanced age, the former minister apparently still have time to read.
Permanent Secretary for Health and Child Welfare, Brigadier General Gerald Gwinji also livened up the seminar with his call on journalists to make their reports on health matters “sexy”, so as to attract readers.
He said: “In your writing, you journalists, are supposed to sexy up health issues so that they attract the attention of the public just like other leading stories on newspapers.”
Gwinji urged the media to play its part in protecting, promoting and supporting optimal infant nutrition.
The seminar was on infant and young child nutrition in Zimbabwe.
Delegates heard that breastfeeding helped reduce infant mortality by 13%.
