Mbare gospel choir works on comeback album

Church of Central Africa Presbyterian Voice of Mbare (CCAP) band, which seemed to have taken a back seat, is set to reappear on the scene with a new album.
One of the band’s front men, soccer player Lazarus Muhoni, will get another chance to hog the limelight through music.
The on and off 16-member band, known for its popular Nyanja song – Nganganga – is working on a comeback project.
“I am now going to be putting more of my time into music since I’m nearing the retirement age in soccer although I’m still part of the Black Rhinos soccer team,” said Muhoni.
Band director Amos Mukohiwa confirmed the planned comeback, adding that they would now remain consistent.
“We are back and currently finishing a new album in our bid to correct past mistakes, including being inconsistent on the music arena,” he said.
The band had gone quiet since releasing an album titled Jesu Ndiye Wangu (2008) whose title track was a major hit on the popular gospel shows on ZTV and since then they just disappeared from the spotlight.
Mukohiwa said the band had been affected by the departure of some of their band members to seek greener pastures in Britain.
“We are happy that the economy is now stable so after we launch our latest project we will go round to other cities to launch it there as well,” he said.
CCAP have been performing at various church functions, weddings and national gatherings.
Most of their lyrics are in Chewa language since the band is comprised of most people originally from Malawi.
The band that hit the spotlight in the late 90’s after releasing the album with a hit song title track Nganganga that was a regular feature on the music charts.
CCAP band members were popular at the “Nguva Yakwana” gospel shows.
In April the band toured Lusaka, Zambia for a performance during the Easter Celebrations at the Bigocka Bible Gospel church of Africa whose performers will also be performing in Zimbabwe next month.
