Vic Falls mayor warned

secretary for local government in the MDC-T Sesel Zvidzai says the party will not hesitate to fire incumbent mayor of Victoria Falls, Nkosilathi Jiyane, if allegations of incompetence and inexplicable alliance with Zanu PF levelled against him are substantiated.
Zvidzai who doubles up as Local Government deputy minister said the MDC-T had no place for corrupt officials and would expel anyone found wanting.
“I set up a team that is headed by the MP for Hwange East Tose Sansole to investigate our councillors in Victoria Falls.
They have finished the investigations and have come up with recommendations,” Zvizvai said.
“From what they submitted, I can see that there is a lot of disharmony in Victoria Falls and we are not going to ignore that. I am going to sit down with him (Jiyane) and decide on his fate.”
The MDC-T – dominated council recently passed a vote of no confidence in Jiyane and his deputy Patricia Mwale arguing they were dissatisfied with the duos performance.
“The mayor was deployed by the MDC-T.
If a person fails to adhere to the party principles then he will be removed. Even if the ministry protects the accused, the person will cease to be part of the MDC-T,” said Zvidzai.
The mayor of Victoria Falls is accused by fellow councillors of enjoying an unusual relationship with Local Government minister Ignatius Chombo to whom he reportedly seeks guidance always.
Councillors in the resort town have charged that their mayor was no longer consulting them preferring to liaise with Chombo or local Zanu PF officials.
Last week, Chombo moved swiftly to block the sacking of the embattled mayor saying only he had the power to remove councillors under the Urban Councils Act.
The MDC-T recently fired 24 councillors in Chitungwiza on charges of corruption.
