War vets chief taken to court

MASVINGO — Embattled chairman of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans’ Association, Jabulani Sibanda, was last week hauled before the courts by a colleague in Masvingo over charges of illegally conducting elections to choose a new executive in the province.
Controversial former Masvingo provincial war veterans’ chairman Isaiah Muzenda has filed papers with the Masvingo civil court against Sibanda and three other war veterans accusing them of having conspired to sanction elections to choose a new war veterans’ leadership in Masvingo.
The case number is INT 66/10.
Muzenda, through his lawyers, Mwonzora and Associates, is demanding that the new executive be dissolved because it was illegally elected.
Muzenda is also demanding that all respondents should not attend the national Zanu PF congress as representatives of Masvingo province or any party meetings until a formal meeting by the national executive to resolve the power struggle in Masvingo is held.
The respondents include Chivi North legislator Tranos Huruva, Shylet Uyoyo, and retired colonel Josphat Rupawo.
Sibanda has not yet filed opposing papers.
