Sables up in International Rugby Board rankings

The Zimbabwe Sables moved four places up in the latest International Rugby Board world rankings to 47th.
Zimbabwe went into last week’s Africa Cup matches at position 51 while Madagascar was the highest ranked of the four nations that took part at position 47. After the rankings were updated yesterday, Madagascar dropped a place down to 48th.
Saturday’s victory on home soil takes the Brendon Dawson- coached Sables above Madagascar and within two places of their highest ever ranking in 2005 when they were in position 45.
However, Zimbabwe will have an opportunity to rise further up the rankings when they host Kenya and Uganda in the reverse fixtures of the Africa Cup on July 17 and 24 at Harare Sports Club.
The latest ranking means the Sables are now above Malta, Sweden and Papua New Guinea.
