Under 15 ups preparations for Singapore Youth Olympics


The national Under 15 soccer team has stepped up preparations for the Youth Olympics in Singapore where they are going to be the only Africa representatives.
Zimbabwe were drawn into the same group with hosts Singapore and Montenegro for the first-ever Youth Olympics Games set to begin on August 13.
The project manager for the team Harry Taruva said of the 22 players currently in camp,18 players would make the trip to Singapore.
He said the International Olympic Committee had set July 15 as the deadline for submission of the final list of players to participate.
The team is also likely to participate at the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa( Anoca) Youth Games which are going to take place in Rabat Morocco from July 13.
According to the ZOC technical and development chairperson Anna Mguni, the country will be represented in four sporting disciplines — athletics, soccer, show jumping and triathlon. Athletes who have qualified for the Youth Olympic Games will use the games to prepare for the August games but they were still awaiting confirmation from Anoca by the end of the week.
The Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee and Fifa announced the football draws recently and Zimbabwe, who will participate in the boy’s event, was placed in Group D together with Singapore and Montenegro.
Group C is made up of Vanuatu, Bolivia and a team from Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football. The six teams in Group C and D will compete in the men’s event while group A and B comprise the women’s event.
