Top modelling agencies of Zimbabwe have come together to form an association called Model Industry Association of Zimbabwe (MIAZ).
The association – comprising over 17 modelling agencies – seeks to revive the local modelling industry that had literally collapsed because of lack of funding.
Various modelling agencies in Harare are involved in the project and they include Size 4, Impeccable Models, Gossip, Sleek and Slender, Déjàvu and Silhouette Studios.
Fingers Academy from Bulawayo, Reties Models from Chinhoyi, Ingwe House from Mutare and Glamour Modelling Agency based in Norton have also joined.
Wilfred Rukato, the association’s spokesperson, said that the move was a strategy by the association’s executives to recruit talented models, groom and promote them locally and abroad.
“We have brought our heads together because we have the same mission, which is to see our local models rise and get properly remunerated for their true worth,” said Rukato.
“On that note let me announce that, MIAZ has the revival of Supermodel Zimbabwe and Miss Zimbabwe as its immediate agenda and also to introduce Zimbabwe Outstanding Awards.”
Reigning Miss Mazowe Sarudzai Zhanje said this was good news for the modelling industry
Executives of the new modelling association include known pageant supporters like Kiki Davaries, Judith Williams, Edmore Sakarombe and charismatic actress-cum-model Tinopona Katsande.
