Zimbabwean Cycling Federation to embark on expansion programme

The Zimbabwean Cycling Federation president, Marshal Marcel says his association will this year embark on an expansion programme to ensure the people from different parts of the country participate in local cycling tournaments.

“Our aim is to have as many fun and family events as we can, with the emphasis being on attracting new cyclists. So we have embarked on a programme to ensure that the sport is widespread across the country,” said Marcel.

“From a cycling perspective Zimbabwe may be considered something of a haven that has yet to be exploited and we are capable of hosting regional and international cycling competitions,” Marcel said.

“The competition calendar is fairly spread around the country, reaching out from Harare to as far as Mutare, Nyanga, Chiredzi, Bulawayo, Vic falls, Bindura, Mazowe and Shamva,” he said.

He expressed hope that the events would play a part in not only marketing the country as a tourist but also as a cycling destination because of the favourable terrain that exists in most of the country’s regions, especially the Eastern Highlands.

The cycling season started in Harare last weekend with the traditional Classic Series which sees cycling tournaments in Harare, Mutare and Bulawayo.

This week, the series will be in the Eastern Highlands in a tournament that has been dubbed ‘The Tour of Manicaland.’

Marcel said cyclists from around the country were expected to take part in the event that will include time trails over short distances and hill climbs over the scenic Vumba Mountains.

In the first cycling event that took place in Harare last weekend Wayne Davison, Lee John and Alistair Banks were the top performers.

However, Marcel said the tour in Mutare would be a difficult race for most of the athletes because of the difficult terrain in that part of the country.

This, he said, was expected to give an advantage to some of the Mutare based cyclists like Bright Chipongo who has been a regular in the event in the past four years.

The races will start on Saturday morning for the Penhalonga stage which will commence at Redwing Mine Club at 0900 hours.

This will be followed by the Christmas Pass time trial which will take place on the same day in the afternoon commencing at 1500 hours.

  1. Another kind of bonus is the variable extra, this means you gat a certain percent of the sum anyone deposit. The percentage is different for every site – it may be 20% or 50%. Some casinos even supply a 100% casino bonus. This is a way for getting people back in the electronic game rooms, but the online casino bonus means you must play by means of some policies especially when you’d like to redraw your cash. This is usually difficult because after you get the online casino bonus you need to meet a number of conditions which might be not effortlessly accomplished. Even so, your efforts will likely be rewarded.

  2. Comment… as the terrain is so challenging in the eastern district there are more talented rides. Hoping to meet on the Manicaland challenge
