The Repertory Players Theatre (REPS) is presenting a special line up of performances this month under the theme “50/80 Celebration”.
The theme has been derived from a stretching period between the 13th of January when REPS celebrated its 50th anniversary and the 17th of February 2011 when the Repertory Players (the society which built the theatre) will celebrate their 80th anniversary.
From tomorrow to the 13th of February “Seasons in the Sun” will be staged at REPS Main Stage.
The show is a fun musical revue featuring the music of the 50s, 60s and 70s, which stars an excellent cast of singers including Richard Sticklen and Nikki Ziehl and Shamiso Gukuta.
“This is a fun show, where television programme characters will be improvising a rehearsed script, which is very funny and humorous,” said Stan Higgins, the chairman of the marketing and publicity committee of REPS.
Also coming up on stage, will be June Cloete’s dancers directed by Stan Higgins and the narrator-performers will be Erin Cooper, Marc Thomas and George Gukuta.
“Hay Fever” by Noel Coward will be presented in the theatre upstairs later this month. It runs for two weeks.
Coward presents an entertaining comedy on the Bliss family: a retired actress mother, a novelist father and their two children. Their outrageous antics infuriate and astound their hapless weekend guests.
The shows are ideal entertainment for audiences of all ages and early booking is recommended.
“We have since started rehearsing on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays and we are expecting excellent performances,” said Higgins.
On Valentine’s Day, February 14, there will be a ball in the Member’s bar.
A fun day will continue from lunch time onwards, where singer, Illana May will take the stage.
“I am very pleased with this year’s attendance so far and I hope it will be maintained throughout the year,” Higgins said.
REPS has introduced a season ticket for 2010, allowing audiences to see 12 productions for a discounted price.
The ticket will allow REPS members a discount.
