DENDERA musician Sulumani Chimbetu and Senegalese Baaba Maal on Saturday thrilled hundreds of visitors to the Harare International Festival of the Arts (Hifa)that came to an end last night.
Chimbetu, who performed in the afternoon when most of his fans would have preferred an evening show, wowed the thousands that thronged the venue. The one hour-long performance proved to be too short for merry-makers who kept asking for more.
Senegalese Baaba Maal had a few lessons for local musicians in as far as depth and ambassadorial roles are concerned.
Unlike most who ask for handouts from fans and others who take time to respond to media reports or in other case some who take the stage as a chance to attack one another, Baaba Maal encouraged Africans to unite.
The world renowned musician also spoke about the plight of African women and asked for an urgent address to issues like water availability.
The musician also exhibited immense skill and respect for African instruments particularly the drums that helped him steal the show.
Ammara Brown also stormed Hifa with a debut sold out show when she performed with Mi Casa.
As late as 40 minutes into the performance, ticket holders were still in the queue to enter the venue.
