Heavy rains that pounded the city did not stop the crowds from attending the events throughout the weekend. The biggest event of the year-end festivities was at Queens Sports Club dubbed the “Bohlingers Tight Party of the Year” on December 31.

Among the gigs that were held was a gospel show at Ampitheatre where Pastor Charles and Amai Charamba held their last show of 2012 on December 30.

Speaking to Journalists after the show, Charamba said he was impressed with the level of local talent in Bulawayo.

“I rate Bulawayo dancers as some of the best in this part of Africa. We will be working with a number of emerging artistes from Bulawayo next year,” he said.

At the “Bohlingers Tight Party of the Year”, thousands of revellers ushered in the new year in style with over 20 local and regional DJs on the turntables throughout the night.

The show, which began at 4pm, brought together local DJs such as ZiFm’s, Kimble Rogers, Djembe Monks, Prince, Scooby and Otis “The Flow” Fraser. South African disc jockey from Afrotainment, DJ Gukwa, kept the crowd dancing with his deep house tunes.

Fraser also put up a good performance. Kimble Rogers was on the decks for the New Year countdown when the clock struck 12 midnight. The crowd went into delirium as everyone screamed and shouted “happy new year!”

Fireworks illuminated the sky as people celebrated the coming of 2013.

The crowd partied until dawn and most people concurred that it was one of the best New Year celebrations in Bulawayo.
